The Hushed Ledger is a detective game set in the town of Dreskmark, where players investigate a mill fire that has mysterious causes. There is no combat in the game; instead, players engage with the story through questioning and deduction. The gameplay revolves around solving cases based on gathered evidence and conversations, where every door opens with a question or a clue discovered by the player.

Case mechanics and investigation

The game includes 28 hand-authored cases involving various crimes, such as arson and forgery. Each case operates on fair-play principles, meaning that all evidence needed to solve a case is available to the player. Players must build their casebook by collecting facts and leads, and they can make choices with consequences, as proving what happened is distinct from deciding what to do about it.
