The Completionist: 1980-1989

Running an 80s magazine

The Completionist: 1980-1989 is a strategic idle sim for PC about running a pop culture magazine through the 1980s. You inherit a small team and a struggling publication, then commission stories about the decade’s movies, music, games and news while trying to keep the business from going broke.

Stories and workflow

Stories move across a Kanban board through five stages: Research, Brief, Create, Edit and Published. You assign workers to stories and manage work as it moves toward publication. The topics include Pac-Man fever, The Empire Strikes Back’s opening weekend, the NES launch, Live Aid and the Challenger disaster. The game has more than 2,000 stories, and the cultural material changes with each Volume.
