A week at the light

EPIBDA is a PC horror game set in a 1911 Icelandic fishing village. You take the place of an old keeper for one week, watching from a tower as an enormous figure stands in the sea. The villagers call the light “a mark,” not a tower, and warn you to keep its beam on the figure: it moves closer whenever the beam leaves it.

Keeping the beam steady

You turn a heavy lens to track the figure and listen for water and creaking joints. The tower shakes when it takes a step. Meanwhile, ships call by radio and need the light to guide them into the harbour past a reef. A full dynamo charge lasts barely a minute, so guiding a ship means spending time with the figure in darkness. Ships lost on the rocks stay there until the end of the game.
