Game premise and structure

Death Knell is a roguelike card game set in a world where a god has died, leaving an empty Throne. Players take on the role of the Chosen of a powerful entity, aiming to claim the Throne while facing various enemies. You build a deck of cards and engage in battles within a turn system that keeps the player in control, even as enemies act based on a countdown timer.

Combat mechanics

The game introduces a variable turn system where cards cost "time" instead of traditional resources. Each card you play influences the enemy's actions by counting down their timer until they can act. This results in a constantly changing turn order, as enemies take different actions based on the time remaining. You must strategize around both your available cards and the timing of enemy moves to succeed in battles.
