Alchemy in the village

Alchemill: A Witch's Workshop is a PC alchemy game about Ottilie, a farmhand who puts on a vanished witch's hat to get dry and is mistaken for the village witch. You take requests from villagers, work out what they need from their words, and test ingredients in a cauldron. There are no recipes to follow at first: your grimoire records each reaction you prove.

Working at the cauldron

Ingredients are simulated grain by grain and drop by drop. You pour them in by hand, stir with a paddle and stoke the fire, watching materials melt, boil, burn or set. What you make can become an ingredient in another brew, so crafting can involve linked steps. Tannin and green vitriol, for example, combine to make ink for a pilgrim's road book. The game has about eighty matters, each part of a crafting chain.
