War of Avareon is a turn-based strategy game for PC, set on a continent caught in economic, political and military conflict. You take territories, build armies, research technology and recruit heroes as you try to claim dominance. Each territory has its own history and gives its holder a permanent bonus, so expansion is about choosing where to fight as well as how much land to take.

Deterministic battles

Combat has no dice or lucky rolls: outcomes are determined by unit counters, veterancy, fortifications and heroes. Four unit types counter one another in a cycle, so a well-matched army can defeat a larger force. Survivors gain experience, and veterans can outlast fresh recruits. When you lose a territory, battle reports show why, giving you information to use on the next turn.
