Climbing the oak

Up the Great Oak is a precision climbing game for PC about a small beetle trying to reach the world above the canopy. You climb from the tree’s roots through its bark and branches toward the sky. The beetle’s parents wait among the roots, where you return if a fall takes you all the way down.

Jumps and landings

To jump, hold to charge and release. Once the beetle is in the air, you can’t steer it, so each leap’s arc is set at takeoff. Landing is part of the challenge: the beetle’s hinged body and shifting center of mass carry momentum onto the surface. A landing can turn into a roll, while weight hanging too far beyond an edge can tip the beetle over. Before a fall, it wobbles at the brink, giving you a visible warning.
