Game premise and setup

UNDERKOVER is a multiplayer party game set in a Soviet apartment block. In each round, which lasts ten minutes, up to eight players assume the roles of tenants while one player takes on the role of the NKVD, the Soviet secret police. Players must navigate the unique mechanics of hiding, blending in, and interacting with others while trying to avoid detection by the NKVD and her dog.

Gameplay mechanics

Players can paint themselves into the wall's pattern by using an eyedropper tool to select colors from the wallpaper. This allows them to effectively hide by becoming part of the environment. Moving or failing to execute a perfect paint job makes them visible to the NKVD. The NKVD, armed with a dog, relies on sound to track players and can’t open doors, adding a layer of strategy to movement and positioning.
