SOLITAIRE.EXE: A Roguelike on the Night Shift

A Night Shift in 1998

SOLITAIRE.EXE: Klondike with a Slot Habit transports players to a retro, late '90s corporate world, where you play as a night-shift clerk tasked with meeting a unique performance quota: score points by playing Klondike solitaire against an unforgiving machine. With each decision corresponding to your paycheck, every draw becomes a tense gamble, blending strategy with the tension of a looming audit.

Scoring Mechanics and Tension

The game's innovative scoring system revolves around hitting a target score before the deck runs dry. Cards can be sent "home" for points, but every scoring move builds a multiplier. Strategically cooling your chain before drawing again adds a layer of choice. This engaging mechanic drives the gameplay, pushing players to weigh the risks and rewards of each action under pressure.
