Game premise and mechanics

市町村麻雀 is a mahjong game designed for PC that focuses on forming names of real Japanese municipalities using kanji characters instead of traditional tile melds. Players must combine single kanji tiles to create valid municipality names; for example, if you hold the kanji "阪" and draw "大", you can form "大阪市" (Osaka City). The game includes a total of 114 types and 136 tiles, enabling players to create names for 606 actual municipalities.

Rules and playstyle

The game retains the basic structure of mahjong, featuring mechanics like Riichi, Tsumo, Ron, Chi, Pon, Kan, and both Dora and Ura-Dora. Matches are played against three computer opponents, and you can win by forming specific municipal names. New rules are introduced regarding how to form groups, such as needing to avoid frequently used kanji when making two-character municipality names.
