Word-based combat

Runecast is a PC roguelike deckbuilder where your deck is made of letters, called runes. Tap them to spell a real dictionary word, then cast that word at the creature in front of you. Longer words deal more base damage, while relics and scrolls can raise your damage and multiplier. Elemental runes add effects: fire, ice, thunder and wind each work differently, and enchanted runes push your score higher.

You have five casts in a fight. Every cast gives the creature a chance to counterattack, and a clock runs while you think. If it expires, the creature enrages and attacks on its own for the rest of the fight. Health carries over between fights, with no free healing.
