Misohagi Crossing is a visual novel adventure game that takes place in a rural Japanese town, combining elements of horror and mystery with a character-driven narrative. The gameplay is divided into three main styles: visual novel sections that follow the story like a book, adventure sections where you explore the town and interact with its residents, and escape-game sections that involve solving puzzles and navigating supernatural otherworlds.

Setting and story

The game centers on Hotaru Akasaki, a first-year university student who returns to Yokomizo, his father's hometown, for his grandfather's first Obon after seven years. He reconnects with relatives, including his cousin Inori and his childhood love, Sayo Amano. However, he learns from his cousin Shinya that the Amano family supposedly died three years prior in a murder-suicide case. Despite this, Hotaru encounters Sayo, who, along with her older sister Mizuho, claims they are trapped in a single summer day as the dead. The game revolves around uncovering the truth behind the Amano family and the mysterious “black flesh” that appears as Hotaru gets closer to the reality of the events.
