Game description

Mato is a narrative card adventure that incorporates elements of Chinese folk horror, survival, and a theme of death and rebirth. Players control a character who begins with no memory and is determined to descend a mountain. Throughout the game, you make choices by dragging your character’s portrait left or right, impacting the story and how you navigate various encounters.

Choices and consequences

The game emphasizes choice, where even simple decisions like accepting a meal or questioning a stranger can alter your health and possessions, as well as your future encounters. Maintaining an appropriate balance between hunger and health is essential as you face the consequences of your decisions, some of which are not immediately apparent. You may also confront grotesque creatures, where choices determine whether you engage or retreat.
