Hex & Tonic

Game premise and genre

Hex & Tonic is a puzzle game that places you in the role of an apprentice witch tasked with breaking a curse. You manage resources in the form of various reagents (Ember, Frost, Toxin, Bloom, Arcane) and use a cauldron to brew potions to meet specific potency targets set by different Hexes. The goal is to draw hands of reagents to concoct brews that fulfill these targets, with penalties for missed attempts.

Brewing mechanics

Each Hex sets a specific potency target, and you can pick up to five reagents for brewing. The cauldron translates your chosen reagents into a reaction type, producing a potency number that counts up until you reach the target. The game includes possible outcomes like Reactions, Twin Reactions, and Grand Elixirs. If you fail to meet the target four times, your cauldron becomes inactive. The game operates on a fair, transparent shuffle of cards, revealing the odds for drawing specific reagents.
