Game premise and mechanics

Expiration is a first-person psychological horror strategy game focused on diabetes management. In the game, you find yourself in a hospital, facing an opponent called the Doctor Dealer across a table filled with medical supplies. Your main tasks involve measuring blood glucose, setting insulin doses, managing limited resources, and making strategic decisions based on hidden information. Survival depends on your ability to react to changing conditions while monitoring both your own and the Dealer's actions.

Managing diabetes

The game’s mechanics revolve around effectively managing a simulated diabetes condition rather than a traditional health bar. You must interpret glucose levels and insulin dosages, balancing rapid and basal insulin effects over time. Food intake raises glucose levels, and decisions made in one turn impact future turns, adding an element of long-term strategy. Overdosing or underdosing insulin can either lead to hypoglycemia or hyperglycemia, making careful management critical.
