Blackstart

Power-grid puzzle

Blackstart is a PC puzzle game about keeping Brazil’s electric grid running. You begin with a few power plants and towns. Each morning, choose whether to build more cable or add a power source; as the map grows day by day, you have to plan for the evening peak, when towns switch on their lights together.

Power flows along every route you connect, but each cable has a limit. Lines carrying too much power turn red, showing where the grid is choking. While you drag a cable, the game shows how much extra power it will deliver at the evening peak. Batteries store daytime solar power for later, thermal plants run continuously, and wind output varies.
