Distant Worlds 2: Shadows Rising is a PC expansion for Distant Worlds 2 that adds pirate play to its galactic empire strategy. The setting is the aftermath of the Cataclysm: civilizations have collapsed, hyperspace travel is dangerous, and the Hive is spreading from the remains of the Shaktur Axis. You can start as a Lone Pirate with one ship or command a space-based Pirate Faction.

Life as a pirate

Pirate play gives you a range of ways to make a living and build power. Raid, smuggle, steal, demand ransoms, take mercenary contracts, or earn money through mining and trade. A faction can develop an economy around those activities, establish hidden bases and criminal networks, and build spaceports, mining stations and research stations. Shadowports offer equipment and ship upgrades.
