Distant Worlds 2: Shadows Rising

Pirate play

Distant Worlds 2: Shadows Rising is a major expansion for Distant Worlds 2, set in a galaxy fractured by a war-ending Cataclysm. It adds ways to play as a lone pirate or lead a space-based Pirate Faction, building power among scattered survivors, outlaw fleets and the Hive.

As a Lone Pirate, you start with a single ship and work toward Legendary status or the creation of a Pirate Faction. You can also periodically switch to a cockpit or bridge view aboard your ship. Pirate activity ranges from raiding, smuggling, theft and ransom to privateering, mercenary contracts, mining and trade.
