Photonic Distress (or PD) invites players to navigate a vivid yet challenging environment that represents the mind's inner workings. Engaging in this first/third-person puzzler/platformer, you will collect 100 memory fragments spread across procedurally generated levels called dreams. These puzzles escalate in complexity and size, offering a dynamic gameplay experience tailored to the choices you make.

Unique Level Generation Boosts Replayability

Each playthrough is defined by a Pseudo Random Number Generator, whereby the seed you choose or generate will shape the layout of the levels, the materials they are constructed from, and dictate the number of fragments in each. No two runs will be alike, giving you reasons to revisit the same difficulties using different seeds, or to tackle higher difficulties with the same seed for an additional challenge.

Shifting Darkness: Difficulty Levels

The game offers four distinctive difficulty settings: Easy, Medium, Hard, and Impossible. Early levels light up easily on the lower settings, allowing for a relaxed approach. However, as you ascend to Hard and Impossible, expect a more intense experience where darkness obscures your path. You'll rely heavily on your trusty Photon gun and scan grenades to illuminate your surroundings and navigate the increasingly complex tiles.

Upgrade Mechanics Add Depth to Gameplay

As players gather memory fragments, they unlock upgrades for their Photon gun. Starting with colorful photon balls, you will soon gain access to powerful attachments like a flashlight and scan grenade. Provided at crucial milestones, these upgrades enhance your strategic options and bolster your capacity to take on hidden enemies lurking in the shadows while revealing vital map details.

Tension Rises with Complex Traps and Barricades

Navigating through levels filled with intricate traps and barricades can prove challenging, especially on higher difficulties. You'll find that the tiles not only get trickier but increase in size as well. With varying difficulty ratings, the game balances lighthearted puzzle-solving with moments of intense strategizing, pushing you to adapt your gameplay style continuously.
