Rich History of the Hunslet Class J94

Originally dubbed the Hunslet Class 50550, the J94 saw significant use during World War II. Its design morphed into the Hunslet Austerity tank, which became the go-to locomotive for shunting and industrial tasks, particularly around shipyards and docks. Its short wheelbase provided a level of agility that was crucial for these operations. The J94 later transitioned to British Railways and was utilized by the National Coal Board until the decline of mainline steam in the late 1960s.
