A Historical Overview of the Class 20 Locomotive

Developed between 1957 and 1968, the BR Class 20s emerged as a major milestone in British Railways' transition from steam to diesel power. With 228 units manufactured, their 1000hp (746 kW) engines took over medium freight services, primarily in the Midlands and Scotland. The distinctive single cab design allows for controls facing either direction, coupled with a retro allure that's reminiscent of steam engines while meeting modern rail demands.
