A Look Back at Locomotive History

This diesel-hydraulic locomotive was a product of British Railways' modernization plan introduced in 1955, aimed at replacing steam engines with modern motive power. Opting for hydraulic transmission instead of the prevalent diesel-electric technology, the Class 52 emerged as a symbol of innovation. With its origins rooted deep in German engineering, it utilized dual engines to achieve remarkable speeds, hitting 90 mph on regular routes and reputedly even faster.
