Wasteland 1: The Original Classic

Game premise and setting

Wasteland 1: The Original Classic is a post-apocalyptic role-playing game set in 2087, nearly ninety years after a nuclear war has devastated the Earth. Players assume the role of a Desert Ranger, a member of a group formed from survivors of a U.S. Army detachment. The game's environment is a harsh wasteland where survival against mutants, radiation, and hostile raiders is a daily challenge. You investigate threats to humanity while navigating a lawless desert, making choices that significantly impact the story and world around you.

Gameplay mechanics

In the game, you undertake quests to gather information and recruit allies as you face various adversaries. Players use a mix of makeshift weapons, like the MAC 17 machine gun, to fend off mutants and raiders. The game is known for its reactive world, where the decisions you make have persistent consequences, shaping both your character's fate and the broader game environment. You can toggle between modern updates, which include new voice-over narration, music tracks, and updated character portraits, or opt for classic mode to experience the original gameplay.
