The Window Across

Story and setting

The Window Across is a pixel-art story adventure for PC about Emi, an archivist documenting the rooms of the apartment block where she grew up. The building will be demolished in three days. Seventeen years earlier, a boy lived in the window across the courtyard, and the two children used lights and paper cutouts to communicate. A lamp turned toward the ceiling meant a question; a paper bird meant “come outside,” and a paper star meant “goodnight.” Their conversation stopped during a storm when the lights went out. Now, a light is blinking again in the empty building opposite.

You play as adult Emi as she photographs rooms, and as nine-year-old Emi in memories. The story rebuilds the evening when the childhood conversation ended, showing events from both sides of the courtyard.
