The Landlords

A historical board game

The Landlords is a PC board game about the early history of The Landlord's Game, patented by Elizabeth Magie in 1904. You play as Doctor Sam Bucket, who wakes up in strangers’ bodies across early-20th-century America after vanishing in a time machine. With help from AL, a wisecracking hologram, and PIGGY, a handheld supercomputer, Sam plays his way through the history of Magie’s game to get home.

You meet Magie as she presents her invention, visit the single-tax colony of Arden, Delaware, in 1916, and head to the Atlantic City boardwalk, where Quaker families gave the board its familiar street names. Historical figures sit at the table, with their own voices, opinions and commentary on your moves.
