Fungarium

Mushroom identification

Fungarium is a PC mushroom-identification game set in the village of Lenhollow in autumn 1911. After a potato blight leaves villagers relying on food from the woods, you take over your late aunt Agnes’s mushroom counter. Each day, villagers bring baskets for you to inspect and decide whether their contents are edible, medicinal, refuse, or poison.

You examine specimens under a loupe, cut them open, check their smell and spore prints, and ask where they were found. Agnes’s field guide helps you distinguish 20 real mushroom species, many of them with deadly lookalikes. Some are only safe with particular preparation, such as being cooked through or eaten the same day, so you also write kitchen instructions on the slips you give out.
