The Wall: Five Hundred Paces is a calm, single-player builder based on Franz Kafka’s 1917 story “The Great Wall of China.” Across ten chapters, you lead a small crew as they repair roads, pass knowledge between people and build a wall in an empire where the purpose of the work can’t be questioned.

It isn’t a historical depiction of China. The setting follows Kafka’s distant empire, a European parable about administration and claims of completion. No one is attacked, and the northern peoples never appear.
