Restoring the museum

The Last Curator is a PC jigsaw puzzle game set in a museum that closed after a flood and remained shut for thirty years. You pick up painting pieces from the floor, carry them to empty frames and fit them together on the walls. Completing a painting brings its room back to life: lamps turn on, dust sheets come off the benches, plants return and music starts.

The game includes 39 public-domain paintings by artists including Vermeer, Van Gogh, Hokusai, Monet, Leonardo, Rembrandt, Klimt, Dürer and Hiroshige. Puzzles use five piece styles: classic jigsaw, straight grid, tiles, irregular shards and broken glass. A museum journal keeps a short note about each restored work.
