Game premise and play style

The Fifth Name is a psychological mystery visual novel set in a middle school where five friends return on their graduation day after receiving an anonymous message. The setting is largely confined to the basement club room that they once used, where they find themselves trapped as the doors won’t open. Throughout the game, players engage with the story by exploring the room and initiating dialogues with friends about their shared past. Interactions are central, with players needing to pay attention to what is said, left unsaid, and how accounts of events differ.

Dialogue-driven narrative

The game unfolds primarily through conversation, lacking traditional puzzle mechanics or inventory management. There are no items to collect or combine, which allows the focus to remain on the dialogue and character interactions. Players can click on various points in the room to prompt conversations and explore different facets of the narrative, which vary based on the characters' perspectives.
