SPLACHESS

Chess and territory

SPLACHESS is a PC chess variant where every move also paints squares in your color. You aim to checkmate the opposing king, but you can also win by controlling more territory when all 64 squares have been painted.

A moved piece paints its destination and the empty squares it attacks. Other pieces block the spread, and pawns paint their diagonal attack squares rather than the squares in front of them. The game marks territory as you play, so moving to expand your color can compete with protecting your king.
