Night Owl Video

Sorting the store

Night Owl Video is a PC sorting game about cleaning up a Y2K-era video rental store on the night shift. You put more than 2,000 VHS tapes back in their individual slots, sorting them by genre and decade. The genres are Horror, Action, Comedy, Sci-Fi and Drama; each is divided into the 1980s, 1990s and 2000s.

The store spans three rooms, a mezzanine, a loft reached by a steel bridge and a back room. You can grab, stack, spin and throw tapes, keep some in quick slots, and roll a ladder over to reach higher shelves. Finishing a shelf triggers a small celebration. There’s no timer or fail state, and progress saves automatically.
