Keep Making Games

Keep Making Games is a PC game about making and selling games, starting in 1976 with a spare room, a homebrew kit and $4,000. You make a game, release it, read magazine reviews and use what you learn to improve the next one. Buzz, Bonsai and Tape comment on your work. After your first release, you choose one of them; the other two move in as you earn them.

Building a game

Each game starts with a genre's core. You attach features to it, sketch a prototype and check what it will cost before committing to the full build. The game is then made in the room while Buzz reads headlines. Each companion wants something different from your next release and tells you what that is. They also evolve twice. Tape, for instance, becomes a floppy disk and keeps talking about how quickly it loads.
