Blackjack in purgatory

House of 21 is a roguelike deckbuilder set in a casino purgatory between life and death. You build a deck of playing cards and use blackjack hands to fight the House. On each turn, you draw cards one at a time, deciding whether to hit or stand. The closer your total gets to 21, the stronger your hand; hitting 21 deals double damage, while going over makes you bust, halving your cards and shrinking your hand.

Cards as weapons

After standing, you drag each card onto an enemy to attack or onto yourself to block. Every card can serve either purpose, so using one to defend means giving up its attack. You start with a simple deck, then attach badges to individual cards. There are more than 130 badges, and each card can carry up to two. They trigger at moments such as drawing, standing, busting, attacking or defending. Pairing badges can create effects such as Venom and Cleave, which weakens every enemy a card hits.
