Hirelings

Game premise and mechanics

Hirelings is a turn-based tactics roguelike combined with an auto-battler shop. Players hire, reroll, and merge characters such as mages and vampires to create a powerful party of mercenaries. Between battles, you manage your team in a shop, where you can hire and upgrade characters. Each character can level up and unlock new abilities when you have three duplicates of the same level.

Combat structure

The game consists of 18 battles spread across three thematic chapters: the forest, the bandit ruins, and the undead dungeon. Every third battle features a stronger enemy, known as a boss. If you lose a battle, you start with two retries, which you can replenish in the shop using gold. Combat is not automatic; you actively use abilities, move characters, and attack during your turn.
