A search in Matera

Encryption is a first-person psychological horror game about Leonardo searching for his missing daughter, Arianna. Wildfires are burning as he reaches Matera, an old town in southern Italy, and the search takes him from its deserted streets to the hollows below. His ex-wife, Sofia, is the only person who still answers his calls.

The story unfolds through cinematic sequences and fully voiced dialogue. Papers and damaged recordings reveal different accounts of what happened, all connected to Arianna. The town’s streets, the land around it and the underground spaces are based on real places and brought into the game using 3D laser scanning and photogrammetry.
