Game premise and mechanics

Card Slay is a poker roguelike where players step into a cursed dungeon controlled by a powerful House. Inside, cards are imbued with magic and serve as key elements in combat. As a Card Slayer, you walk in with a ritual deck to form poker hands and finish a never-completed deal that left the House frozen mid-hand. The gameplay revolves around drawing eight cards, using your Plays and Discards to build optimal hands, and letting the suits dictate their effects: red suits primarily deal damage, while black suits provide defense.

Combat and enemies

Combat in the game consists of nearly 69 hand-authored encounters featuring 43 unique enemies and 5 bosses with specialized mechanics. Each enemy has its own method of challenging the player, such as a Grave Auditor that taxes hands lacking a certain rank, or a Suit Glutton that grows stronger with a specific suit. Boss encounters introduce unique table rules, requiring players to adjust their strategies accordingly. The game emphasizes building effective poker hands to counter diverse threats while ensuring that enemy intents are clear each turn.
