Train Simulator: Union Pacific DD35 Add-On enriches the railfanning experience on PC with the addition of the mighty EMD DD35 and GP35 locomotives. Originally designed for the Union Pacific and Southern Pacific railroads, this 5,000hp diesel-electric locomotive represents a pivotal moment in rail history, fusing innovative engineering with powerful performance. Modelled by DigitalTrainModel, this add-on allows players to explore detailed scenarios and routes in the vast world of freight hauling.

Historical Context of the EMD DD35

The EMD DD35 was engineered as a booster unit to complement the main locomotives of its time. Lacking a cab, the DD35 required a more traditional ‘A-unit’ locomotive for operation. With two GP35 prime movers and a single frame, it offered enhanced power by transferring it to four axles instead of two. Despite its initial reliability issues associated with outdated technology, once these were resolved, the DD35 became a valuable asset on the tracks, exemplifying the innovative spirit of the mid-20th century railroads.
