History of the Hercules Frigate

The Hercules Frigate has an intriguing backstory, tracing its roots from its construction in Russia as the light ship Legkii. Captured by the French and passed through various owners, including the British as the Duke of Palma, the vessel escaped numerous encounters with US privateers. In 1813, the ship was bought for $25,000 and renamed Hercules. Under Irish captain William Brown, or Guillermo, it played a crucial role in recapturing Montevideo and shaping naval history.
