Altus Chess-Urban Play

Explore New Dimensions in Altus Chess-Urban Play

Altus Chess-Urban Play, an expansion for the base game Altus Chess-Archaic Beginnings, introduces players to two innovative tournament boards: the 12×8 and 18×12. While the core chess experience remains unchanged (same pieces, rules, and mechanics) the altered dimensions dramatically affect strategy and gameplay. This DLC invites seasoned players to rethink their tactics and make quick, decisive moves in tight spaces.

Reimagining the Classic Chessboard

With the new boards, Urban Play minimizes the distance between opposing pieces right from the early game. On the 12×8 board, pieces often collide by turn two, creating a faster-paced environment that leaves little room for gradual development. The 18×12 offers a slightly larger playing field, but even here, strategies that rely on opening up the board may falter due to cramped positioning. Expect aggressive skirmishes and rapid promotion opportunities.
